Continuing from last time, R said they accept any kind of clients — you don’t have to be high-net-worth and accredited investors. Because technically, this is a purchase, not an investment, so there aren’t a bunch of complicated requirements or restrictions on accreditations. .
Depending on the whisky type and age you pick, some casks can be just a few thousand pounds, while premium ones — like Macallan — can go for a quarter million pounds per cask. It’s totally up to your own budget and comfort level. A lot of people start small, test the waters, and then gradually scale up — there’s no pressure, just do what feels right.
If you go with their custody service, their fees are only charged at the exit — meaning, when you sell. And there are many exit strategies: R said they can bottle and sell the whisky for you after a few years, buy it back from you directly, help you list it at auction, or sell it to another investor in their network. Long story short, to date, they’ve never had a case where someone couldn’t sell or had to sell at a loss.
As always, I started with a small amount that wouldn’t ruin my day if lost. So far, the experience has been great.
